Current vacancy: Full time Junior/Mid-Level Maker

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a reasonably experienced and confident maker with a strong background in solid freestanding furniture to come and join the London Studio.

We will need to you be comfortable working independently from drawings, and seeing a project through to completion.

We really value our makers taking full ownership of each piece they make, so confidence in taking a piece from drawings to delivery is essential.

Attention to detail and an exacting finish are central to the way we work, so a healthy tendency towards perfectionism certainly wouldn’t hurt.

However our ideal maker also has a well tuned understanding of deadlines and is comfortable occasionally working under pressure.

Ideally you’d have a driving license and your own hand tools.

About us

We are bespoke makers, rarely making the same thing twice. We move pretty fluidly between traditional tools and techniques and the more modern equivalents: Whatever gets the job done best is our approach.

Our work is mainly in homegrown solid timbers, however, we occasionally branch out into veneered work, some basic metal work and the even more occasional bit of fitted joinery.

We have great opportunities to develop and integrate digital craft skills in to the business. With CNC, laser cutters and 3d printers on site. Any digital expertise and CAD skills are welcomed but not essential.

You’d be joining a small workshop (just 2-3 people). Where we all get stuck in helping each other out and have the opportunity to turn our hands to a wide range of work, learning new skills materials and techniques along the way.

The Workshop

We are a small friendly workshop located in a beautiful victorian yard in East London, surrounded by other makers. We are part of a larger community workspace called HONE and have two shared, very well equipped workshops full of like minded and friendly folk; a pretty rare gem in London and a lovely community to be part of.

If this sounds like you, please get in touch with a brief covering note about yourself and your relevant experience to date (we don’t need full CVs), and a portfolio of your recent work.

Suitable candidates will be invited to come for a brief skills assessment and an informal interview.

The position will initially be on a freelance basis, however, with the intention of moving PAYE in the medium term should things go well. Pay will be dependant on experience and skill level, and our hours are full time but flexible.

Look forward to hearing from you.

James
