CRAFTS COUNCIL HOTHOUSE 2019 PROGRAMME

Crafts Council’s flagship maker development programme soon to get under way and i am beyond excited and humbled to have been chosen as one of this year’s participants

Run by the UK Crafts Council. The Hothouse programme brings together a group of 26 makers carefully selected by the Crafts Council from a huge range of craft disciplines.

The programme is designed to take us on journey of creative development, business planning, networking etc… all aimed at giving us the skills to drive each of our nascent businesses to the next level, and in doing so continuing to bolster and support the UK’s craft industry and the talent therein.

The Hothouse programme came to my attention a couple of years ago through a number of designers/makers who’s businesses are all that little bit more mature than my own, each of whom had recommended it to me with the utmost zeal.

It was a glowing testament to the Crafts Council and the program that so many of the maker’s who’s business models and achievements, I was hoping to emulate, had been through the Hothouse program.

Looking around and my fellow 2019 Hothousers, I feel humbled and incredibly honoured to have been included. There is clearly some incredible talent amongst the group and talent that spans such a vast range of skills. The opportunity to work alongside and learn from this group is pretty amazing.

SEPTEMBER 2018

NEW HORIZONS, NEW HOME….

In September, I finally made the move away from the Building Crafts College.

Having spent three very happy years there, first as a student then as the Maker in Residence for a year, its been a happy home, but one i’ve definitely grown out of.

So here it is my new home… and I’ve got my own sign!!

We’ve moved into The Pixley Street Workshops, near the Limehouse cut, where I’ll be joining a group of 6 other makers in a big old Victorian warehouse thats now a brilliantly kitted out co-working space.

I’ve made the move with the crazy talented desinger/maker, and friend, Ellen Svennigsen (svenningsenstudios.com or @carousellen), recent winner of the Wood Awards Student category.

Its a really exciting move for us, moving into a grown up space with great machinery and a wealth of knowledge surrounding us.

The new space gives us a whole new set of capabilities, with more space, bigger and better machinery and of course the all important 24 hour access for when you just cant leave a project alone. 2019 is already looking big and exciting with a pretty full diary of some seriously exciting projects.

With our enhanced capabilities we’ll be taking on larger commissions from January onwards. This will include bespoke kitchen work, where there is the room to make a meaningful design contribution to an exciting project that fits with our core values.

Watch this space… hopefully loads of exciting things to come in 2019.
